The questions we always get

Ask us anything.
Here's most of it.

Real questions from daycare directors, in plain English. If yours isn't here, ask us directly — we answer within a day.

01
The "free" thing

Pricing, trust, and the catch.

Wait — really free? What's the catch?+

There isn't one. We build a real, working site for you before you pay a cent. If you love it, hosting is $39/mo flat. If you don't, you walk away owing nothing and we wish each other well. We'd rather show you the work than sell you on it.

So you build the whole site before I pay anything?+

Yes. About 6 pages, mobile and desktop, your photos, your words, on a temporary URL you can share. You see it in about a week. Only after you say "yes, I want this live" does any money change hands.

Are there setup fees, domain fees, or surprises later?+

No. $39 a month covers hosting, the domain (yes, we buy it), SSL, security, backups, monthly content edits, and our time when something breaks. If we ever need to charge for something extra, we'll tell you the number before we start. We don't surprise-bill.

Is there a long contract?+

No contract. You're month-to-month. Cancel any time, for any reason, and we'll hand over the code and the domain.

What if $39/mo is more than I can swing?+

Tell us. We've quietly worked out smaller arrangements with a few in-home programs and brand-new centers. We'd rather you have the site than walk away over a number.

Do you actually decline people sometimes?+

Yes. We take about twelve clients a year. If our calendar's full, we'll tell you when we open back up. We won't string you along.

02
Getting started

What we need from you.

What do I actually have to do to start?+

One 20-minute call (or a written reply, your choice). Tell us about your program, your families, your hours. Send a few phone photos of the space. That's it — no questionnaires, no creative brief, no homework.

I don't have great photos. Is that a dealbreaker?+

Not at all. Phone photos are usually fine, and we'll guide you on which corners to shoot. If your photos really aren't usable, we'll mix in carefully chosen stock until you can take new ones — and we'll send a one-page guide on how. Some of our best sites started with three iPhone shots.

I'm not a writer. Do I have to write the copy?+

No. We write it. We listen to how you talk on the call, then write the site to sound like you. You'll review every word and we'll change anything that doesn't ring true.

How long does it really take?+

About three weeks from first call to live site, if you reply to our notes within a day or two. The first version lands in your inbox in 8–10 days. Most clients launch in week three.

Do we have to meet a bunch?+

Two short calls, max. One at the start (20 minutes) and one to walk you through the site (30 minutes). Everything else is email, on your schedule. We know your day is already full.

Can I bring my co-director or spouse into the review?+

Please do. The site lives on a real URL you can forward to anyone — staff, board, your most opinionated parent. We'd rather catch the "I don't love this" feedback now than after launch.

03
The site itself

What's on it, what it does.

What pages do you build?+

Up to six. The usual set is Home, About / Our Approach, Programs (or Classrooms / Ages), Tour or Enrollment, FAQ for Parents, and Contact. We move them around to fit your program — a Reggio school looks different than a faith-based preschool, and both look different than a home-based program.

Will it look right on phones?+

Yes. Mobile and desktop are both finished before launch — no "we'll get to mobile later." Most parents will find you on their phone in a school pickup line; we design for that first.

Will parents find me on Google?+

We set up the basics: clean URLs, fast pages, proper titles and descriptions, a sitemap, and a Google Business Profile if you don't already have one. Local search for "[your town] daycare" is mostly about your Business Profile and reviews — we'll point you at what to do there. We don't promise rankings, because nobody honest does.

Can it be in Spanish, or two languages?+

Yes. We've built bilingual sites with a language toggle. You give us the translations (or we'll quote a translator), and the site switches cleanly. Especially worth doing if Spanish-speaking families are a real part of your community.

Is it accessible — ADA, screen readers, all that?+

Yes. We follow WCAG 2.2 AA: real alt text, keyboard navigation, color contrast, semantic structure. It's the right thing to do, and increasingly the legal floor.

Can families fill out a tour or waitlist form?+

Yes. Forms are included — they email straight to your inbox, no separate dashboard to log into. Want a calendar where parents pick a tour slot? We'll wire it to Calendly or similar at no extra cost.

Can I link Brightwheel, Procare, Tadpoles, or my waitlist software?+

Yes — any tool that gives you a public link or embed, we'll plug in. Enrollment portals, payment links, parent logins, food menus, online tours. If your tool doesn't have a link, we'll figure something out.

Do you do logos and branding?+

Light branding, yes — type, colors, a clean wordmark if you don't have one. Full brand identity (mark, system, print collateral) isn't our specialty; we'll happily refer you to people who do it well.

04
After it ships

Hosting, edits, and leaving.

Who owns the site?+

You do. Always. The code, the photos, the words, the domain — yours. If you ever leave, we hand it all over. No ransom, no migration fee.

Can I edit the site myself?+

Small text edits and photo swaps — yes, with a friendly editor we'll show you. Bigger structural changes — write us, we'll do it the same week. Most clients prefer to email us; that's fine, that's what we're here for.

What counts as a "small content edit"?+

Updating tuition rates, swapping a few photos, rewriting a paragraph, adding a holiday closure notice, posting a blog update. Up to four of those a month, included. Bigger pushes — a whole new page, a redesigned classroom section — we'll batch and quote a flat fee.

Can I keep my existing domain?+

Yes. We'll move your domain to our hosting (free) or just point your existing registrar at our servers — whichever you prefer. We've done both dozens of times; it's a 10-minute job and we walk you through it.

What about email — is that included?+

We'll set up email forwarding (e.g. hello@yourschool.com goes to your Gmail) at no extra cost. If you want full Google Workspace mailboxes for staff, that's $6/user/month paid directly to Google. We help you set it up either way.

What if something breaks?+

We fix it. Usually before you notice — we monitor uptime. If you spot something first, email us and we'll be on it the same day, often within an hour. No tickets, no portal.

How quickly do you respond?+

Within a business day, almost always sooner. We're a small studio with a small client list, on purpose, so the answers come from the people who built your site.

What happens if I want to leave?+

Email us. We'll export the code, transfer the domain to your name, and walk you through pointing it wherever you'd like. We'll also tell another studio everything they need to know to pick it up. We'd rather have a friendly ex-client than a stuck one.

05
Bigger asks

Edge cases and what we don't do.

Do you do multi-location centers?+

Yes. Two to six locations is a sweet spot — one site, location pages, separate inquiry routing. We'll quote a flat fee on top of $39/mo and treat it the same way: free design, pay only when you love it.

Can you build a parent portal, billing, or logins?+

We don't build those from scratch — Brightwheel, Procare, and friends already do it well, and we'd rather you use one of them. We'll connect a tool you already have. If you want a custom portal, we'll honestly tell you it's not our specialty.

I'm a home-based daycare, not a center. Is that fine?+

Very fine. Some of our favorite work is for in-home programs — they tend to have the warmest stories and the worst current websites. Same process, same price.

What if I already have a site I half-like?+

Even better — we have something to react to. We'll either redesign it, fix the parts that aren't working, or tell you it's already good and you should leave it alone. We've done all three.

Why only daycares and preschools?+

Because we got really good at it. The questions parents ask, the photos that work, how to write about a teacher, how state licensing pages should read — it's all specific to this world. Starting over for another industry would mean doing this one less well.

Can I see real examples?+

Yes — the work page has live sites, before-and-afters, and a few notes on what we changed and why.

Still got a question?

We answer within a day, from a real human who'd be working on your site.
